Setting up and Navigating the Canvas Mobile app

You are able to download the Canvas Teacher mobile app and use it for some fundamental tasks in facilitating eCornell courses, including messaging students directly from the Canvas Inbox, commenting on Discussion posts, and reviewing your course calendar.

Please note the following information before downloading the Canvas Teacher Mobile app:

eCornell-specific customizations are not compatible with the Canvas app at this time.

This includes features such as the Facil tool, and unique Speedgrader functionalities such as the Fill Points and Add Attempts features. These features will only be available on the desktop version of Canvas, which you can access by visiting lms.ecornell.com on your computer. Additionally, third party tools built into eCornell courses such as Codio, the Jupyter Notebook, etc., are not supported at this time.

Although the Canvas mobile app can be a great resource communicating with students while you may be away from your computer, it should not be used for any significant amounts of grading.

Downloading the Canvas mobile app and Getting Logged In

With the above limitations in mind, you can download the Canvas Teacher mobile app from the Android Play Store or iOS App store, the app icon will look like this:

Please note your phone must be up to date with either Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 17.0 or later.

I. Logging in Via a QR Code

  2. From your dashboard, click your account photo from the upper left-hand corner, and then click QR Code for Mobile Login
  1. Click Proceed to allow the QR code to generate.
A QR will appear on your desktops' screen.

  1. Hold your phones camera up to the QR code on your computer screen. Try your best to make the QR code fit the box which has appeared on your phones screen.
