I Have a Student Requesting Accommodations- How Should I Proceed?

It is imperative that requests for accommodations are handled expediently and compassionately. If you have a student in your course that requires accommodations, please send an email to ec_studentsuccess@cornell.edu with a copy to ec_facilitation@cornell.edu.

If you don’t receive a reply within 24-hours, please call student support at 1-800-801-0287/1-607-330-3297 for immediate assistance. Please also send a note via the Canvas Inbox to the student to let them know you are looking into your request and will be in touch with additional information.  Assure the student not to worry about any upcoming deadlines as they automatically qualify for an extension.

eCornell staff may consider referring students for accommodations for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Students with behavioral issues: those who have expressed extreme distress, anxiety, or anger while working with eCornell staff
  • Students who have mentioned a medical condition short term or long term. (examples: ADHD, autism, cancer, vision or hearing impairments, pregnancy, broken bones, etc)

Student Who Have Accommodations

The Student Success team (ec_studentsuccess@cornell.edu) will contact you before a course starts if one of your students has been granted accommodations.

Most common accommodations we provide are: (DO NOT share with students)

  • 5-day extensions
  • Course transcripts sent 1 week prior to course start date
  • Canvas immersive reader (for vision and attention deficits)
