Navigating the Gradebook and Accessing the Speedgrader

Allison McComb Updated by Allison McComb

To access the Gradebook for an individual course section, click the “Grades” tab from within the course

When a student submits to an assignment, you will see an icon appear under the assignment column (example below).

Color shading in the GB:

Blue background denotes the assignment was turned in late. You can ignore this feature generally speaking, as our courses do not have a "lateness" factor; as long as students submit their work before the course ends (or within an extension deadline), it will be eligible for grading. Please note: there are rare exceptions to our "soft" due dates. You will be made aware if a course you are facilitating has "hard" due-dates.

Red background denotes that an Assignment is missing. You can use this feature to help guide on which students may benefit from gentle nudge reminders. Please visit this article for steps on how to send gentle nudges from the gradebook.

Green background denotes when a student resubmits an assignment previously marked incomplete

Please note the “Total” column in the Gradebook view is only indicative of the assignment currently graded. If you want to see if a student has fully completed the course with 100%, you can click their name from within the gradebook, and then the red “Grades” button which appears on the right hand side

To Grade an Assignment:

Click on any icon that shows on the gradebook, click the icon that looks square with an arrow in it:

Then click “Speedgrader”

Select an assessment and leave comments in the assignment comment field.

Your options are Complete, Incomplete, or Excused.

*Please note, we do not use the Excused option, so the assignment needs to be marked Complete or Incomplete.

Once you grade a student's work, the icon which appears in the gradebook should be a check mark. If the assignment is marked as incomplete, you will see an “X”.
