What Do I Need to Do to Make Sure My Course is Set Up Correctly?

Before each of your course sections begin, you should review the course to ensure all due dates, announcements, and live sessions have been set up correctly. We recommend you have your course set up by the end of the day on the Monday before the course starts.

Please use this eCornell Course Set-up Checklist to help guide your set-up actions, as well as the below chart.

Steps

Considerations

Review assignment due dates.

  1. In the facilitator menu list, select Assignments.
  2. View dates from this page. If any need editing, click the three dots associated with each assignment and select Edit.
  3. In the Edit Assignment box, click the Calendar icon and select the date and input the time by which the assignment should be submitted.

All graded assignments must be submitted no later than 11:59PM, Eastern, on the final Tuesday of the course. However, we add assignment due dates to encourage students to engage in the course over its whole span.

The Course Automation script that runs before each course begins should input due dates for you, however, you are required to check these before the course begins to ensure they align with the actual course dates.

Set up live session dates and times in Zoom.

  1. Run the Facil tool using the steps outlined in this guide.

**Please follow this guide very closely if you ever need to reschedule a live session using the Facil tool.

This article contains a guide on how to add Calendar events to your course if you want to add additional reminders for any assignments.

Customize and configure initial course announcements, including the Student Lounge.

  1. In the facilitator menu list, select Announcements.
  2. Click on the title of any Announcement to view its' contents. If any need editing, click the three dots in the upper right-hand corner and select Edit.

Similar to Assignment due dates, the Course Automation script that runs before each course begins should input most announcements for you, however, you are still responsible to check them and to be ready to manually replace placeholder text and set delays as needed.

You are required to post a Facilitator introduction, as a Welcome Message to the Student Lounge of each course you facilitate. This message should include a brief introduction of yourself and the course. If the intro includes video, please include a text transcript.

Please visit this article for a visual guide on embedding your video into the Student Lounge.

Conduct quality review of your course.

  1. Read through the syllabus to ensure you are familiar with information being shared with students and grading structure.
  2. Double check assignments and familiarize yourself with course content if needed.
  3. Review the AA Instructor/Facilitator Page

Information on the AA Instructor page can be found in this article.

Please do not change any settings on this or any other hidden page. Please reach out to the FST at facilitation@ecornell.cornell.edu is you have any questions!

Optional: Update Canvas Profile/Bio if needed

Your Canvas Bio should lead with a focus on your role at eCornell and the courses that you facilitate as the primary introduction w/the external references secondary.

Steps on how to update your Canvas Bio can be found in this article.
