Help! My Students Can't View a Video Within My Course

Each eCornell Course contains pre-recorded videos. If a situation arises in which your students are unable to view a video begin by following up with the individual student to gather more information. If there is a technological hurdle you may well be able to guide them to resources that will resolve the issue.

Generally speaking, when students are unable to load videos it is typically for one of the following reasons:

  1. Browser- we do not support all browser versions, but what we do support can be found on our student-facing Technical Requirements page. We encourage students to use the most updated version of Google Chrome the same for the best experience.
  2. Accessing devices- we do not support the Canvas app at this time, so if students are accessing using a tablet or mobile device they will very likely run into this issue. We encourage students to use a personal desktop computer for the best experience.
  3. Cache/cookies issue. Students may need to clear their cache or allow cookies if they experience technical difficulties. A good way to test this is by having them accessing using an incognito tab of Chrome.

You are welcome to share these tips, etc with students if you like!

Please also feel free to put them in contact with our Student Support team at ec_helpdesk@cornell.edu or 1-800-801-0287. The folks on that team are the experts in helping students navigate technical issues!
