Setting Module Prerequisites and Requirements in Canvas

There are two main steps to locking out content until a prior something-in-Canvas has been completed:

  1. First, make the disclaimer quiz (Datasets Disclaimer, Hold Harmless, etc.) a requirement to complete the Course Details module, following the steps in this Canvas document: Adding Requirements to a Module in Canvas
    1. All prerequisite quizzes, such as the Datasets Disclaimer, Hold Harmless, etc., need to meet the following standards as of Dec 2024:
      1. Quiz appears in the Course Details module, to avoid issues in creating the dynamic homepage.
      2. Quiz is graded, and is worth 1 point.
      3. The module-level requirement is to submit the assignment.
      4. Prerequisite quiz will appear in the table of graded assignments on the Syllabus, as it is a graded quiz. There is no need to adjust other assignments to make the total possible points equal 100.
  2. Then, set each subsequent module to have as a prerequisite the Course Details module, by following the steps in this Canvas document: Adding Prerequisites to a Module in Canvas
Do nothing to the Course Resources module. That will allow the Glossary to be accessed at any time.

When you are finished, check your work against the Module structure in AAP101

Note that if students have been enrolled prior to your setting these prerequisites and requirements, you'll need to "re-lock" the module in order to see if you've been successful.
