Live Session/Zoom Trouble Shooting Guide & Technical Readiness

The Live Session Trouble Shooting Guide is an excellent resource for technical problems that may arise during Live Sessions.  In addition, below please find additional information on best practices for technical readiness that will help to ensure a seamless experience for our learners.

Technical Readiness: Ensure optimal technical performance by preparing your virtual environment before each session

  • Close concurrent applications/windows (i.e., email/browsers) prior to the session as this can slow down computer/Zoom performance.
  • Begin the session with the slide deck in presenter mode.
  • Confirm Zoom lighting and camera angle are appropriate.
    • Open your Zoom settings and test the camera angle to ensure you are well-lit and visible. Lighting should come from in front of you rather than behind.

Zoom-specific instructions to familiarize yourself with should include:

If a participant's audio isn't working:
  • Ask them to mute/unmute their microphone
  • Have them check their Zoom audio settings
  • If needed, recommend leaving and rejoining the meeting

If students ask for the Live session recording/to use an AI Notetaker, please feel free to share the following blurb:

eCornell live sessions are recorded for internal training and quality assurance purposes only. To respect the privacy of all participants, and to encourage an environment of all being present and engaged in discussion, we ask that you do not record the live session, or use AI Notetakers to transcribe. If you’d like to turn Zoom closed captioning, you are welcome to do so with these steps:

View captions during a meeting or webinar

You are able to remove AI Notetakers from your Live Session Participants list with these steps:
