Practice Quiz Standards

Practice Quiz Standards

As Canvas plans to retire classic-style quizzes, we should use new quizzes during both course updates and new deployments. A few things to note:

  • Practice quizzes must be set to 0 points in the settings.
  • When adding questions to your practice quiz, each question should have 0 points; do not assign 1 point per question, for example.
  • Be sure to include the language in 8675309’s practice quiz in the instructions: “This ungraded quiz is intended for practice only; it is not a required assignment and will not affect your grade.”
  • Once set to 0 points, check the two boxes, “Do not count this assignment towards the final grade” and “Do not display in gradebook or the student’s grade page”

  • Assignment group should be set to Assignments, not Practice Quizzes. In some STEM applications with numerous practice quizzes, there may be a strong case for using a separate Practice Quiz group; this can be handled as a one-off for that course or certificate.
  • On the homepage, the practice quiz should appear under “This module includes,” e.g., "One practice quiz," but should not be linked as an assignment, unlike discussions or project parts.

How did we do?
