Faculty Testimonial Process

Casey Shew Updated by Casey Shew

Overview:

Each Expert-Led program we develop should include a faculty testimonial shoot. Product and IDs will collaborate to determine if the faculty is not a good fit for a testimonial. The ID will coordinate the testimonial shoot as part of one of the final video shoots for the last course. The VP will process the footage separate from the course videos and share with Product via Wrike request form. Product will request any further edits, and may share the content within eCornell or with Cornell faculty. The faculty member should be reminded that the target audience is fellow Cornell faculty. Testimonials may be displayed on the Faculty Portal.

Who is involved:

  • Faculty Partner
  • Product Owner
  • Instructional Designer
  • Video Producer

Why is this necessary:

The purpose is to build a large library of faculty testimonials that we can use to provide valuable insight internally within Cornell - primarily for prospective faculty to learn more about how eCornell works and how they may benefit from working with us. The primary place for this information is the Faculty Portal [NetID login required].

Process Details:

1. Project Plan Meeting Discussion (PM, IDD)

  1. Discuss if there is any reason this faculty member would not be a good candidate for a testimonial
  2. If no, Product will mark Wrike task as NA
See this article for more information about the Project Plan Review Meeting: Project Plan Review

2. Request faculty participation (ID)

  1. At least a week before the last video shoot, ID emails faculty partner to ask if they would be willing to give their thoughts on a few questions regarding their experience with eCornell
    1. Frame it as a way to inform and encourage fellow faculty members
    2. Sample language: “As we wrap up our video shoots for this project, we would love to capture your thoughts about your experience with eCornell. Would you be willing to respond to a few questions at the end of our upcoming video shoot? This is a great opportunity to inform and encourage fellow faculty members who may be interested in developing a program with eCornell.”
  2. If they refuse, indicate the conversation in the Wrike task, mark as NA inform video team, tag in PM as FYI
  3. If they accept, send the questions over to them so they can prepare, and confirm plan with video team
This step is done during the "Schedule & Prep for Shoots" Wrike task for the last course in the series.

3. Send list of questions to faculty at least a day in advance of final shoot (ID)

  1. ID can select which of these questions are most pertinent to the faculty. We recommend picking 2-4 questions.
    1. What was your experience like working with eCornell?
    2. What drove you to choose to work with eCornell?
    3. How has this experience impacted you and your teaching?
      1. How have you leveraged your work with eCornell in the classroom
    4. Why should fellow faculty consider working with eCornell?
    5. Is there anything you wish you knew before starting the process with eCornell?
    6. In your own words, describe the process of creating your course(s)
      1. Note: Consider how we may prep to ensure that responses are in full sentences/don’t need the question text in order to make sense

4. Shoot testimonial at the last video shoot (VP)

  1. Prep for longer shoot on the last day of their shoot

5. Testimonial footage processed and edited (VP)

  1. Footage processed separate from the course videos
    1. FacultyLastName_Testimonial_MMDDYYYY
  2. Initial editing done at this point
    1. Trimming start and end
    2. Color correction, visual consistency, audio sweetening
    3. Cutting out filler words, awkward silences, question asking

6. Product team reviews and requests edits (VP + Product)

  1. Upload video to shared folder on frame.io and submit Wrike request form Product. The following steps will take place in the resulting Wrike ticket:
    1. Product reviews and requests edits and provides lower thirds information
    2. VP makes edits and continues review/edit process until product gives final approval

7. Finalize Testimonial (PM)

  1. Upload testimonial to Kaltura with title "<College/School Name>, <Faculty Name> on working with eCornell" and add to this playlist
  2. QA Captions
    1. Request to QA Team
  3. Product team will share with faculty members and potentially request that clips from this video be used in a future supercut video.
