How Quickly Do I Need to Provide Grading to Students?

eCornell Standards for Effective Course Facilitation and Grading

Assuming our students have met all course requirements, they have the right to expect a timely conclusion to their studies. You will expedite that process by grading all coursework as promptly as possible.

  • You should always strive to grade assignments within 24-48 hours of submission, on a rolling basis.
    • In courses with large enrollments, this approach will help you stay ahead of the last-minute submission pileup.
    • It will also give you time to identify students who may not have submitted satisfactory work and contact them early enough for them to take corrective action.
  • Final grades should be entered into the Gradebook within 48 hours of the end of a course. Typically, this means the end of the day on Thursday.
    • For students who were granted an extension, enter their final grades as soon as possible after they have submitted their outstanding coursework.
    • If you will be unable to complete all grading within that time frame, please reach out to the Help Desk. They will make a note so they can quickly respond to student requests for updates on their grades.
The documents below contain rubrics that outline our standards for course facilitation. These apply to most programs. Some programs will have variations, which will be documented in Program Facilitation Guides and/or in the Facilitator Notes within each course. Let your Program Facilitation Manager know if you have any questions or concerns.

Note on dedicated sections: dedicated sections are those set up and run for a single client. They typically include additional responsibilities for the assigned facilitators. These are shared with the facilitator upon assignment of a dedicated section.
