Doc-Based Master Course Template and Standards (8675309-DOC)

Standards for Doc-Based Courses

Use the Doc-Based Master Template, 8675309-DOC, to create DEVs for courses that used documents (instead of quizzes) for projects.

Per Susan, as of early Jan 2025, all courses — whether they use quiz-based projects or launch with document-based projects — have the following standards:

  • 85% grading scheme
  • Updated syllabus
  • 5-point discussions
  • New dynamic homepage
  • Course Details module with
    • Welcome to Your Course
    • Live Session Information
    • Preview Your Course Project
    • Student Lounge
  • Any pre-requisite quizzes (Hold Harmless, etc.) need to be included in the Course Details module to avoid creating issues with the dynamic homepage. See this article for details on setting up that functionality.
  • Updated graded quiz language
  • Module requirements to submit all graded assignments
  • Final Project: Complete and Submit module
    • With prerequisites of completing each prior module with requirements

Differences Between Doc-Based Master Template and 8675309

  • Project pages are document submission-based, not quiz-based.
  • AA Facilitator Notes page does not include partial credit language.
  • Module requirements
    • All graded assignments must be submitted
      • Project Parts One and Two requirements will be "mark as done"

A Note On The Differences

The presence of the 85% grading scheme (we think) causes issues with our legacy set-up of project assignments, where the final project was worth 20 points and each prior part was worth 0 points. Specifically, an uneditable blue box warning appears at the top of the page for all project parts that are not the final, graded submission as below.

In order to address that blue box warning — the assignment definitely does count toward the final grade — and meet the other standards, the following standards exist in the Doc-Based Master Template and should not be changed:

  1. In Module Settings, the requirement for Project Parts One and Two (all but last submission page) is “Mark as Done”
  2. All Project Parts are set to 20 points (so that the common rubric can still appear on each project page), and display grade as percentage. (Parts One and Two will have no submissions.)
  3. Language was added to Project Parts One and Two as Step 5, instructing students to mark this page as done.
