RedShelf Functionality

Adding RedShelf Functionality to a Course

  1. From any page within the course, click Settings.
  1. From Course Settings, click Apps.
  1. From the External Apps screen, enter "Redshelf" in the Filter by name field.
  1. Click RedShelf from the results list.
  1. From the RedShelf page, click +Add App.
  1. On the Add App popup screen, populate the fields: Consumer Key, Shared Secret, and White Label Name.
    The eCornell information is:

    Shared Secret: F3DHSGKTQRFRPJFJ4MN853R2DMMVKAHBKC73A2WV35
    White Label Name: cornellstore
  2. RedShelf is now installed in course. Reload the page to see the Redshelf app appear in the Navigation bar.

Edit the Display Name

To edit the name appearing in the navigation menu:

  1. Click Apps on the Settings page. Click View App Configurations.
  2. The External Apps page opens. Scroll to find "RedShelf Course Materials" from the list.
  3. Click the gear icon next to "RedShelf Course Materials". Click Edit.
  4. The Edit App popup appears. Change the Name field to "<Title of Book> eBook".
  5. Click Submit.

Add RedShelf to the Course Resources Page

  1. In the Course Resources module, click the plus sign.
  2. The Add Item to Course Resources popup appears. Click the dropdown arrow.
  3. Select External Tool.
  4. Scroll through the list until you find the name of the RedShelf document. Select the document and click Add Item.
  5. The document appears in the list of items under the Course Resources module. Click the publish icon to publish it to the course.

Ensure RedShelf Functionality Before Students Go Live

In order to activate access to the eBook, an instructor will need to click the link in the Master course 48-36 hours before the course opens to students.  Add the following information to the AA Instructor Notes page:

The students receive a free downloadable ebook in this course. At least 36 hours before student access, activate this download by clicking on the link for the book <describe location of link -- likely course resources>. You will receive an error message, but this will notify Red Shelf (the ebook provider) to activate the ebook for this section.
