Wrike - Course Development Template 3.0 Release Notes

The 3.0 version of the Course Development Template includes refinements and improvements to better represent the evolution of our course development process over the last two years and make it easier to customize the project plan to fit your project needs. Below are the major highlights and changes to the new template.

Video

The video milestone now offers two options, one for a standard video shoot and one for a traditional multi-feed. You and/or your IDD will choose the video milestone option that fits your project. This is expected to be a significant upgrade for IDs.

Other changes include:

  • 'Schedule & Prep for Shoots' removed.
    • The task was removed from the Video milestone because the video shoot is typically scheduled earlier in the development process. After outlining and building the project plan, IDs are encouraged to talk with their faculty to obtain buy-in on the proposed video shoot date(s) or determine an agreed-upon date. The scheduled video shoot doesn't need its own task in Wrike.
  • Moved the 'Fill out Media tab' task to 'Course Setup.'
  • The new multi-feed milestone adds time for visual slide creation, clean-up, and QA. It also contains shoots and basic edit tasks all in one milestone.

Non-Video Assets

The Non-Video Assets milestone has been split up to allow the ID team to track writing Canvas text and develop the glossary later in the development process. Another benefit of the revisions is a more accurate time frame representing the development of non-video assets.

Highlights include:

  • The 'Assets - Edit/Revise' task is split into 'Assets - Edit/Revise Canvas Pages' and 'Assets - Edit/Revise Downloadable Content.'
  • The new 'Canvas Text' milestone moved further down in the timeline. It includes tasks for adding assets to Canvas, writing page intros, and writing course & module intro/wrapups.
  • The 'Develop Glossary' task was removed from 'Non-Video Assets' and is now its own major milestone. This change will make it easier to keep the Non-Video Assets milestone task on time and up to date.

On-Demand

Blended Learning Guide (BLG) tasks are expanded to five to represent the entire BLG process better.

Animation

The animation milestone now offers two options, Standard animation or multi-feed+. You and/or your IDD will choose the video milestone option that fits your project.

Highlights include:

  • The revised milestone for the standard video process includes additional steps for artboard collaboration.
  • Increased emphasis on Creative Director Review in the animation process.
  • New task: 'Create Course Logo.'
  • Motion Design task expanded to accommodate multiple rounds of iterations, reviews, and revisions.
  • Multi-feed+ is for the rare instance that you have shot multi-feed video but also need to add additional animation on top, like arrows, highlights, etc. This should only be used if it's been discussed and approved in your project planning meeting.

QA

  • By default, 'Create Training Version of Course' is now assigned to IDAs.

Default Role Assignees on Unassigned Tasks

We've added dummy users representing job roles (i.e., "Motion Designer," "Video Producer," etc.) to all of the tasks in the template so that if a task isn't assigned to a specific individual yet, it's more clear which role performs the task. For instance, if the "Video Processing" has not been assigned to a specific video producer yet, it will have the dummy assignee "Video Producer" on it as a placeholder until it is assigned to the particular video producer performing the task. In the past, without looking through the custom fields, it may have been unclear on an as-of-yet unassigned task which role performs the task. This update aims to make that clearer and more intuitive.

It's important to note that when a task is assigned to a "Video Producer," it doesn't mean any video producers have been notified. That assignee is simply a placeholder to designate which role should be assigned to that task.
