Wrike Tasks in Detail

Ways into Tasks

As discussed in the Wrike for External Collaborators: Basic Actions article, you can enter individual tasks from almost any view, although it may look different (superimposed pop-up window vs. split-screen) depending on which view you started from:

Once in a task, you can perform a number of task actions.

Task Actions

Status

This is the main method for communicating when you are moving from one phase of a task to another. The default eCornell workflow includes the following task statuses:

  • Planned
  • To Do
  • In Progress
  • Ready for Review
  • Waiting for Info
  • On Hold
  • Done
  • Backlog
  • Not Applicable

Your eCornell contact will let you know which of these statuses to use when. You can change the status from the drop-down list at the upper left of the task window (either pop-up or split-screen), or use another method such as moving the task card from one Status column to another (in Board view) or changing the status in the Status column (in Table view)

IMPORTANT: in the Status drop-down menu, there is an option to “Change Workflow”. Do not do this. Change the status only, within whatever workflow has been set for the task.
Comments

Another key task communication feature is the Comment function. At the bottom of the task window, there is a comment field, where you can add comments; @mention your co-workers to bring the comment to their attention; and include emojis and formatted text (@mentioning someone also shares the task with them). Your eCornell contact will let you know how they would like you to use comments; in general, the more information, the better.

Attachments

You can also attach files directly to tasks, using the “Attach files” option next to the paperclip icon.

Subtasks

Task can also contain subtasks, which show up in the task object as a list of items with checkboxes. These can be opened and worked on as separate tasks; you can also check the box next to each item to change its status to Done.

Wrike Proof

Wrike Proof is a powerful built-in tool for facilitating collaborative review and versioning of graphical and video resources and project components. A full discussion of Wrike Proof is outside the scope of this article: if you need to use it for your project, your eCornell contact will provide you with training and support. For more information, you can review this Wrike Knowledge Base article.
