Canvas Page Functionality

Publish (or Unpublish) a Page

Canvas allows you to keep a page or an entire module "unpublished" until you are ready to make it public. Pages that are "unpublished" are not visible to students, therefore you want to ensure all pages are published before the course is reviewed by QA.

When viewing a course in Module view, new pages will default to being unpublished. This is indicated by the grey circles by the page name.

To publish a page, simply click the gray circle:

The icon now appears as a green checkmark, indicating the page is published.

You can also publish a page from within the page itself.

Simply click Publish from the page screen:

The page will appear in the Modules view with a green checkmark.

Delete a Canvas Page

To delete a page from a course:

  1. Unpublish the page (see steps above for instructions). You can delete the page either from the page itself, or from the Pages view in Canvas.
    1. From the page itself: Click to open the page. Click the 3 dots/overflow and select Delete.
    1. From the Pages view: Navigate to the page you wish to delete. Click the 3 dots/overflow and select Delete.
Do not remove a page from Modules view. This will only delete it from the Modules view and not the Pages view of the course.

Edit a Canvas Page

To edit any page in Canvas, open the page you are going to edit and click Edit from the upper right of the screen.

The edit screen opens. Use the toolbar above the text box to apply a number of formatting and style options.

To edit the page in HTML, or to place HTML templated text (such as for Read, Tool, and Watch pages):

  1. Click View and select </> HTML Editor or click the </> symbol on the bottom right of the text box.

  1. You will now be able to enter text in full HTML code. You can either use the default "Pretty HTML Editor" or change it to "Raw HTML Editor". To do this, simply click on the Raw HTML Editor link below the text box.
