QA and Deployment of Courses With Doc-based Projects in 2025

Markette Pierce Updated by Markette Pierce

Per Susan, as of early Jan 2025, all courses — whether they use quiz-based projects or launch with document-based projects — will need some standards we’ve been lumping under “PRJ Conversion” applied to them.

These include:

  • 85% grading scheme
  • New syllabus from PRJ Conversion Course
  • New dynamic homepage
  • Course Details module with
    • Welcome to Your Course
    • Read: Live Session Information
    • Preview Your Course Project
    • Student Lounge
  • Any pre-requisite quizzes (Hold Harmless, etc.) need to be included in the Course Details module to avoid creating issues with the dynamic homepage.
  • Module requirements
    • All graded assignments must be submitted
  • Final Project: Complete and Submit module
    • With prerequisites of completing each prior module with requirements

The presence of the 85% grading scheme (we think) causes issues with our traditional, 8675309, set-up of project assignments. Specifically, an uneditable blue box warning appears at the top of the page for all project parts that are not the final, graded submission as below.

In order to address that blue box warning — the assignment definitely does count toward the final grade — and meet the other standards, the following steps need to be taken:

  1. In Module Settings, the requirement for Project Parts One and Two (all but last submission page) are “Mark as Done”
  1. All Project Parts to be set to 20 points (so that the common rubric can still appear on each project page), and display grade as percentage. (Parts One and Two will have no submissions.)
  1. Language to be added as Step 5 instructing students to mark this page as done.
